A group of 19 Malawian young leaders is set to participate in this year’s Mandela Washington Fellowship, a flagship of Young African Leaders Initiative Fellowship.
Mandela Washington Fellowship takes place every year at different university campuses across United States of America (USA) training the young leaders in public management, civic leadership, and business and entrepreneurship among many other fields.
According to American Embassy in Malawi, the 2017 program will run for six weeks in months of June and July.
Announcing the selection of the 19 young leaders, USA ambassador to Malawi Virginia Palmer congratulated those selected and encouraged them to wisely use the opportunity.
“These 19 young leaders represent the very bright future ahead for Malawi. I am so pleased these young leaders have chosen to hone their professional skills in the United States of America”, said Palmer.
This year’s number of those to participate has gone up to 19 from 16 of last year.
Launched in 2014, the Mandela Washington Fellowship is brings up to 1,000 African civic, business and community leaders between ages of 25–35.
