A 2017 Commonwealth Week will be hard to forget for Malawian young man Charles Lipenga who has scooped a Youth Award for Africa and Europe in London where he also had a rare opportunity to meet United Kingdom’s His Royal Highness Prince Charles.
Lipenga, a founder and leader of youth – led organisation Maestros Leadership Team, has been honoured for his contribution to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) through the organisation.
The award winner Lipenga established some projects including Project Inspired which raised funds for 1,000 scholarships and saw a government secondary school being adopted in Malawi’s commercial capital of Blantyre.
The Maestros leader expressed that youth should “become equal and effective partners in development” for successful implementation of Sustainable Development Goals.
He further said that, he “believe that through equal opportunities to quality education, we can create a great awareness and mobilise a global movement where young people will discover their purpose and take their roles in development”.
The Commonwealth Youth Programme celebrates young people that are driving democracy and development in order to demonstrate their capabilities and inspire further action.
