Community members around Enukweni in Mzimba vandalized Enukweni Police Unit at the end of last week in an attempted mob justice to manhandle a murder suspect apprehended in the area.
Reports say that the people were demanding the release of Geoffrey Nkhambule who was arrested on allegations that he stabbed Jabin Chirwa to death.
Officer-in-Charge at Enukweni Police Henry Kamanga told the media that the people got furious and started stoning the facility when they were told that the suspect had already been referred to Mzuzu during the day.
Kamanga revealed that officers on duty had to run away for their lives.
Asked if there were any injuries, the Officer-in-Charge stated that, “everyone was running for their lives; so I wouldn’t know if anyone was injured even though I wouldn’t be surprised if there were injuries because the situation was deadly”.
Meanwhile, the law enforcers have nabbed several suspects in relation to the matter.
