Nkukula Magistrate court on 21 September 2017 sentenced a 24-yearold Justin Namasindi to pay a fine of MK30 000 in default to 9 months in prison for giving false information.

Police say that Namasindi, a businessperson at Area25 in the capital Lilongwe, lied to his parents that he had been kidnapped when he left for Bembeke while the truth was that he was with a girlfriend in Thyolo.

The suspect told his parents that the kidnappers were demanding MK100 000 for his release.

However, the parents reported the matter to police where investigations revealed that the kidnapping issue was false.

The suspect affirmed giving false information citing that he wanted money to enjoy with his girlfriend.

First Grade Magistrate Cecilia Onsewa convicted the suspect of the offence which is contrary to section 122(A) of the penal code and sentenced him to pay MK30 000 in default to 9 months Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL).

Justin Namasindi hails from Piyasi Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba district.
