A male pedal cyclist have been killed in fatal road accident in Magochi Malawi News Hub has learnt
Eyewitness said a motor vehicle with South Africa registration number DZ 17 LW GP hit Daniel Walusa a pedal cyclist near OK lodge in the district.
They said the vehicle Isuzu lorry was travelling from the direction of Mangochi heading to Liwonde with two passengers on board.
According to Mangochi police station public relations officer lnspector Rodrick Maida,police have impounded the vehicle and arrested the driver of the vehicle Sydney Jameson.
Maida said Jameson lost control of the vehile due to over speeding and hit Walusa on the nearside of the road who was trying to cross the road from left hand side to right hand side.The accident occured in the afternoon hours of Tuesday March 14 ,2017.
Following the impact deceased sustained multiple head injuries and was rushed to Mangochi District Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Postmortem conducted at Mangochi District Hospital revealed death was due to head injuries seconded by excessive loss of blood.
He said Jameson will appear before court to answer an offence of causing death by careless/ reckless driving contrary to section 126 of road traffic act levelled against him.
Sydney Jameson (37) hails from Village and Traditional Authority Kalembo in Balaka district while the deceased (35) hails from Waluma Village , Traditional Authority Nkhumba in Phalombe district.
Meanwhile Mangochi police is urging road users to observe highway code to distance themselves from reoccurrence of avoidable road accidents.
