Malawi national team ‘the flames’ young star Daliso Sailesi has caused emergence of two social media camps following his switching to Chichewa language during an post match interview with Supersport as man of the match.
Sailesi was on Tuesday selected man of the match in a goal less draw with Mauritius.
During the interview, Sailesi was seen struggling with English and later did himself a favour by switching to Chichewa, the most well known language across the country.
However, some people started making fun of the 21 year old fantastic midfielder saying it was shame he did not complete the interview in English.
As usual, social media users got busy with sharing the voice note and video clip of the interview especially on Facebook and WhatsApp.
Nonetheless, the mockery thrown towards the Nyasa Big Bullets star came along with a group of ‘wise’ people in defense of the player arguing English isn’t a measure of intelligence.
The defense group further cited that there is no shame to use Chichewa anywhere giving examples of international footballers such as Barcelona super star Lionel Messi who does interview in his mother language.
Among those seen defending Sailesi on social media are journalist Andrew Chilapondwa and celebrated gospel artist Gwamba.
Currently, the battle is still going on with a lot of statuses talking about the incident either for or against what happened or and what is happening.
