Fire that gut down the house in Mangochi on April 5, 2017 has left two people of the same family dead and severely injuring one.
According to Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Rodrick Maida,The two who died in the burning house are James Ali aged 33 and 6 year old Ekra James, father and son respectively. While a 27 year old mother in the family Maimuna Kalembo got injured and was rushed to Mangochi District Hospital.
Kalembo’s mother Mina Saidi told the police that she just found the house up in flames as she was returning from a shop. People called to the rescue of the wife who was only one alive by then as the father and his son were already dead.
The fire is believed to have been caused by a candle which was left to give light in the house.
Meanwhile, the only survivor has been referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital and postmortem results indicate that the two died due suffocation.
James Ali 33 hailed from Laini Village while Maimuna Kalembo and Ekra James are of Mbaluku Village all in Traditional Authority Chowe in the district.
