A Fourteen year old boy have died in Mangochi after drowing in Kapira river. Mamgochi police officers have identified the boy as Jafali Alli.
Mangochi Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Amina Tepani Daudi told Malawi News Hub on Monday that the deceased best friend, Liyasa M’dala who is also 14 year old boy told the police that the two went to Kapira river for swimming, whilst in the water Jafali reached a deep area which made him unable to swim as a result he drowned.
Daudi said when M’dala realized about it he rushed and reported the matter to the villagers for immediate assistance.
“Community members flocked to the river in order to rescue him, and mounted a search but found him already dead”.said Daudi
“His body was retrieved from the
water and taken to Mangochi District Hospital for postmortem. The result revealed that death was due to suffocation.”She added
Meanwhile Police in the Mangochi are advising the general public not to allow their children to play or swim in the waters without the company of seniors.
The decease hailed from Chiwundo village Traditional Authority Kalembo in Balaka district.
