Reports making rounds on social media platforms such as whatsapp that some parts of Mzimba like Edingeni, Jenda, Embangweni,Kapopo,Engalaweni and Kasichi are hit by a deadly desease of cholera are false Malawi News Hub understands.
This publication has learnt that no cases of cholera have been registered in these areas.
Healthy officials in Mzimba say they were only conducting awareness campaign last week in sensetizing people on the deadly desease that have hit hard neighbouring country of Zambia.
There are reports of the outbreak in Zambia especially Lundazi district which is bordering Edingeni, Engalaweni, Kasichi and Kapopo.
In their meeting they, requested Traditional Authority M’mbwelwa to close mobile markets comonly known as ‘Kabwandire’ to prevent Zambians from flocking to Malawian markets.
Officials in Zambia have closed markets, all primary and high schools in the affected areas.
Meanwhile, Inkosi Mmbelwa has agreed to close all mobile markets close to Zambia.
A certain place known as Khulamayembe in Zambia which is about 10 km from Edingeni has registered 15 cases of Cholera with 10 deaths.
So this was a wakeup call for stakeholders to take a step to prevent this since people around these places share mobile markets.
