Communties around Hoho trading centre in Mzimba district are on a mission of sourcing funds amounting to K1.5 million to electrify their area.
An area in Mzimba south constituency has been without electricity since democray.
The area well developed , produced two parliamentarians for Mzimba constituency in the past ,has been neglected for quiet sometime.
According to a community member Emmauel Sindango Hlane, communities had a meeting with officials from Electricity Supply Corperation of Malawi (ESCOM) this week and agreed to electrify the area on condition that the community would pay K1.5 million for transfomers.
He said ESCOM officials enlighten the community of their responsibilities on taking care of the utility resources. They were also told that ESCOM will only provide transformees for HOHO and its neighbour hood MSAZI and the surrounding areas will connect to them.
Electrifying the area will boost the development and increase access to other services like welding,drinking refrigerated water.
Meanwhile community members are appealing to community members living in South Africa and those in working class to help them with funds.
Some areas to benefit from the project include Zawagumbo,Kathundu,Chigoti,Phakati,Nyanyuweni, Chigoti,Msazi,Chidongo and others.
The power will be connected from Champhira trading centre which is few kilometers away from Hoho.
