Albert Shara, a Journalism Masters student at Wits University in South Africa has emerged a best journalist in Malawi for two consecutive years by Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi-Chapter.
Besides getting the Best Journalist Award, Shara was also recognized as Best Pediatric and Adolescence HIV Journalist of the Year and Best Education Journalist of the Year.
Shara got the second award for the story titled “Leaves in Underwear“ which discusses the effects of poverty on girls that usually end up contracting HIV or other STI’s.
The journalist was quoted saying “I achieved the same order last year. I am also the first journalist to defend the overall winner award in saying”.
The awards were announced during the 2017 World Press Freedom Day Commemoration Annual Media Awards Gala held in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe.
