The Government of Malawi through the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare has strongly condemned the ‘sexual harassment’ of the mentally challenged woman who paraded naked in Limbe couple of days ago.
A woman believed to be mentally ill recently caused drama in the streets of Limbe after she stripped and paraded naked.
The government has expressed its shock through a press statement saying it is “deeply
disturbed by the images circulating on social media that expose the dignity” of the woman.
The statement states that, “Every Malawian has a right to dignity, privacy, security of their person and to be safe from any form of street justice”.
Further, the government consequently “calls on every Malawian to be vigilant and report any strange and suspicious activities that violate the rights and well being of women and girls so that the law must take its course and stiffer penalties are imposed on perpetrators”.
The government has since revealed that fight against any form of abuse of the vulnerable shall be maintained with proper measures in place to ensure everyone’s dignity is respected.
