A lorry carrying cement broke a bridge and fell into the river at Mulumba in the eastern region district of Zomba on Friday 17 March, 2017.
According to eye witnesses, the head of the lorry crossed the bridge without problem but the body broke the bridge and the whole vehicle slipped into the river as the bridge collapsed.
One of the villagers said that the project of the bridge was deficiently funded with resources from the district council.
It is also believed that the bridge was constructed by people with no expertise to do such a work.
The lorry belongs to a company constructing Technical College at Nasawa in the district.
