Malawi national team former captain and now assistant coach Peter Mponda has confirmed that he has decided to join politics and contests for a parliamentary seat.
Speaking to a local radio in Malawi Mponda, said that he made some consultations with other people before deciding to join politics.
He said his aiming to empower the youth in the country.He also told the radio station that he will be contesting under Blantyre City South constituency which is currently occupied by musician Allan Ngumuya.
It is still not yet known on which party ticket he will be contesting.
“It is true that I have political plans, so far I have made thorough consultations. I am thinking much for the youth whose future has been looking dim,” said Mponda.
When asked if his plans of joining politics will do anything with his football career.Mponda said it wont do anything .
“Yes much of my time will be for political things but football is in my blood”. He said
