Speaker of Malawi Parliament who is also Malawi Congress Party (MCP) legislator Richard Msowoya has urged with the general public to awake in caring for environment saying effects of climate change hit everyone.
Msowoya made the remarks in his message on World Environmental Day (WED) which falls on June 5 every year.
According to Msowoya, climate change is a clear phenomenon which nobody these days would deny considering how its effects hit on people around the world.
Citing some of the hardships face as a result of climate change on his Facebook page like emerging scarcity of water and quick drying up of rivers, the speaker urged that reversing the effects required conjunctive move.
“There are many manifestations of climate change, but the bottom line is that we are faced with a very serious situation that calls for concerted efforts in protecting the environment”, wrote Msowoya on his Facebook page.
He suggested that the way to go is to enforce the already existing laws and also to consider how poverty induces environmental degradation.
The MCP legislator went on to say there is a need “to provide people with alternative sources of fuel and energy” among many other possible solutions.
