The Mangochi First Grade Magistrate’s Court has sentenced Alex Banda, 26, to four years imprisonment with hard labour for burglary and theft.
State prosecutor, Efford Kamphonje told the court last Friday, that on the night of December 30 2017, Banda broke into the shop of Raheem James of Chipalamawamba village Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi through the front door and went away with assorted properties namely ; an HP laptop, 32″ Samsung plasma TV, 21 different cellphones, One camera, assorted cellphone batteries and headsets, all items worthy K645,000.00
He said few days later Mangochi Police detectives successfully apprehended Banda through a call log follow-up and also recovered all the stolen items in Dedza district where he was hiding.
Banda pleaded guilty to the charge of
burglary and theft.In his rulling, First Grade Magistrate Ronald M’bwana said he meted out the sentence to deter would-be offenders.
Alex Banda hails from Malomo village Traditional Authority Chiloko in Ntchisi district.
