Man fined half million kwacha for contravening road traffic regulations in Mangochi

Magistrate court in Mangochi has sentenced a 32-year old Rajab Yusufu to a fine of MK500 000 for contravening road traffic regulations during the Mother’s Day celebrations.

Malawi News Hub understands that road traffic and police officers were conducting a joint traffic check in Mangochi where people from all walks of life flock to during various celebrations such as that of Mother’s Day.

The officers detained many drivers for various offences.

The court heard that Yusufu was found driving a vehicle Nissan Tilda whilst drunk, without a driving license and with exceeding number of recommended seats.

Report says that the court also found guilty of contravening road traffic regulations Sadati Mkangadzula and Konrand Liyabunya.

Passing his judgment, Second Grade Magistrate Augustine Mizaya sentenced Yususu to pay a fine of MK500 000 while Mkangadzula and Liyabunya were fine MK350 000 and MK120 000 respectively.
