Court in Mangochi has sentenced Amin John, aged 32, to 9 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL) for an offence of breaking into a building and commitand felony there in contrary to section 311 of penal code.
Sub lnspector Grace Mindozo, a prosecutor based at Mangochi Police Station, told the court that on the night of May 10 2017, unknown criminals broke into Premier Bet building where they stole one laptop, Snotec plasma, dongle, 2 Point Of Sales (P.O.S) and MK45 000 cash among others all items worth k1 560.000.00.
The prosecutor added that investigations were initiated which led to the arrest of the accused person a week later when some of the stolen items were found at M’baluku Trading Centre in the district where the suspect was mentioned.
The accused person was convicted though he pleaded not guilty.
The convict asked the court for a lenient punishment.
Passing the judgement, his worship first grade magistrate Ronald M’bwana expressed his concern over the accused person’s conduct for not reforming after serving a jail term hence he slapped him with 9 years l.H.L to deter would be offenders.
Amin John hails from Lingamasa Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi district.
