Namwera Second Grade Magistrate Court in Mangochi has sent Sanudiya Mereka to jail for 9 years after he was found guilty of burglary and theft contrary to section 309(a) of Penal Code of the Republic of Malawi.
A state prosecutor Constable Raphael Chitsamba told the court that Mereka committed the crime on the night of March 04, 2017.
According to Chitsamba, Mereke broke into the house of Billy Rajab through the window and went away with a laptop, a Samsung smartphone and other assorted items all worthy MK 280, 000.00.
The convict was arrested following recovery of some of the stolen items in possession of Gerald George at Chiponde Trading Centre on the Malawi – Mozambique border in the district.
Following a plea for stiffer punishment by the prosecutor, Second Grade Magistrate Pearson Mwanyali slapped Mereka with 8 year jail term for burglary and another year for theft.
Sanudiya Mereke hails from Mpandila Village in the area of Traditional Authority Jalasi in Mangochi.
