A young girl Shanawa Douglas aged 5 has died in Mangochi following head injuries after being involved in an accident which happened on July 21 2017 at Mwambwajira Trading Centre along Nselema – Chiponde road.
According to Mangochi Police Deputy Spokesperson Sergent Amina Daudi, Shanawa was hit by a Hino lorry registration number MH 1951 which was coming from direction of Nselema heading to Chiponde as she was crossing the road.
The deceased died on the spot due to severe head injuries.
Daudi added that the vehicle went on to hit a cyclist who escaped with minor injuries.
The driver, 42 year-old Anusa Kaisi, and two other passengers who were on board were escaped with no injuries but the vehicle they were travelling in got damaged.
Meanwhile, Kaisi is in police custody waiting to be taken to court for an offense yet to be disclosed.
Shanawa Douglas hailed from Mwambwajira Village in the area of Traditional Authority Jalasi in the district.
