A fourty three year old Malawian man is reportedly shot dead in Traditonal Authority Makanjila in Mangochi District by Mozambican police officers after a group of Malawians
were protesting against the uprooting of their crops by the police in
Reports say that the boarder between Malawi and Mozambique was
redone which resulted in land that initially belonged to Malawi now
belonging to Mozambique.
Gardens that belonged to Malawians in Makanjira found themselves
The report added that , this was done without proper consultation or
awareness of the affected people.
The people of Makanjira were surprised when they were told by Mozambique police that they should stop farming in those gardens as the land belonged to Mozambique.
On thursday morning the affected people mobilized themselves and staged a protest which resulted in one person being shot dead.
Police in Mangochi said are aware of the developement but are still gathering more information from their officers despatched to the area.
Meanwhile Mangochi District Commissioner has said that he has reported to the dispute to Office of the President and Cabinet as it is too big for him to handle.
