Land rights activist Vincent Wandale has formed his political party ‘Alliance for Change Federalist Party
This comes in a space of a week when Sally Kumwenda a malawian student at University of South Africa announced the formation of her political party ‘Leaders with compassion party ‘ (LCP)
In an interview Malawi News Hub,Wandale who was arrested by Malawi a government for leading people of Mulanje and Thyolo district to have their own state said his party’s name may change since the name is not yet approved by registrar generals office.
On his arrest he said it was nothing but political
“I was arrested for land injustice yes. This party is aimed at dealing with the land problem politically as current politicians are accomplices of white colonial fraudsters that is why they decided to arrest me despite knowing I am saying the truth. We will change the laws to suit our needs hence forming a party. No crime is committed in forming a party so no need for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP),Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and other parties to fight me. I don’t use the party to do illegal things. This is a real party not a pressure group.”
When asked if he have dumped his plans of having Mulanje and Thyolo (MUST) as standalone state. He said the plans remains unchanged.
“Yes I was appointed supreme leader of the African traditionalist republic of the united States of thyolo and mulanje ,(MUST) and I am still the leader according to our constitution and the republic was not dissolved. However we decided to go for a federal alliance with other districts of Malawi hence the party formation with federation as one of its objects. The dream is still alive and through this party our MUST government will be consolidated as a federal state within Malawi . we want to present a united petition to Malawi government requesting that the country should become a federation because decentralisation is not enough”
Wandale said he can not register his party in Mulange and Thyolo state because the Malawi government is in denial of its independence.
“We can’t register in MUST because the Malawi government is in denial of our independence that is why they arrested me despite the declaration of independence and are failing to call for a referendum to hear views of people of thyolo and mulanje.”
Wandale said his party has not yet found donors.Members of the party will be funding the party by paying membership fee of K300.00 per person. When asked if this will scare malawians to join his party. He said not at all.
“Not at all. Any organisation needs committed members. K300 is small amount and will help make leaders accountable and members keen to know what is going on. Otherwise without a fee then where do we get cash for operations. Cashgate comes because of parties without membership fee”.
According to Wandale the party will go to conventions to elect leaders in various position soon after it is registered.
“Yes soon after registering convention will be done”
Mzimba youth has joined Wandale and formed a group dubbed Mzimba Alliance for change.
“I have initiated the party at district level and almost every district is represented. I’m the one responsible.”Said Wandale
Alliance for change federalist will contest in both presidential and parliamentary positions in the 2019 elections
Malawi has about 50 political party.
