NTCHISI MAN GETS 5 YEARS IHL FOR BREAKING INTO BUILDING
The Ntchisi First Grade Magistrate’s Court has convicted and sentenced 41-year-old Piason Phiri to 5 years imprisonment with hard labour for the offence of breaking into a building and committing felony therein.
The court heard that the convict in the month of January 2018 at Ntchisi Trading Centre in the district of Ntchisi broke and entered into a shop belonging to Smallholders Revolving Fund (Ntchisi Branch) and stole therein four bags of Urea fertilizer valued at K95 000.
In court, the convict pleaded guilty to the charge of breaking into a building and committing felony therein contrary to Section 311 of the Penal Code.
Passing judgment, First Grade Magistrate Dorothy Kalua said the offence committed by the offender is serious in nature hence a stiff sentence needed to send as a caution to other would be offenders.
She then sentenced him to 5 years imprisonment with hard labour.
Phiri comes from Samuel Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalumo in Ntchisi.
In a related development, the same court has sentenced Chitsanzo Mtamanja, 20, of Msolola Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chikho in Ntchisi to 48 months imprisonment with hard labour for theft by servent contrary to Section 286 of the Penal Code.
The court heard that the convict between the month of September to October 2017 at Msolola Village in the district of Ntchisi being a servant employed by Yanjanani Mtikile stole money amounting to K650 000 which was meant to buy groundnuts belonging to Yanjanani Mtikile.
