Stealing government assets seem to spare no age as Namwera Police Post in Mangochi is keeping in custody 18 year old Tomeki lmedi for stealing a government motorcycle contrary to section 282(1) of the penal code.
According to Tikhalenawo Kayesera, a medical assistant at Chiponde Health centre, on the night of July 22, 2017 the watch man left the health centre premises leaving the Motorcycle registration number MG 543AH worth 1.8 million parked near out patient department as he went to attend to his sick wife at home which is few metres away from the premises.
On return, he discovered that the motorcycle was missing from where it was parked and investigations indicated that the motorcycle had been taken to Mozambique.
The matter was reported at Chiponde Police unit and police investigations were initiated immediately.
In the process the members of the general public tipped the police that they saw unknown man riding the said motorcycle heading to Mkwamba in Mozambique.
The police then arrested Imedi and recovered the motorcycle which was found in his possession at the time of arrest .
The suspect is due to appear before court to answer the charge of Theft of Motorcycle which is contrary to section 282(1) of the penal code.
Mangochi Police has meanwhile appreciated the good working relationship which still exist between the law enforcers and members of the general public.
