Amid an increase in road accident deaths, a 22 year old first year student of St. John DMI University in Mangochi located at Radio Maria Malawi campus identified as Phunziro Matupa has died after being involved in a road accident which occurred on July 22 at Wanja village along Liwonde- Mangochi road.

The accident involved a Toyota Voxy registration number MJ 2145 which was coming from the direction of Liwonde heading to Mangochi.

Upon arrival at Wanja village due to speeding, the driver, Lucius Kazembe, hit two male pedestrians who were walking to the same direction.

After being hit, Matupa sustained severe head injury and died whilst receiving treatment at Mangochi District Hospital while the other pedestrian escaped with minor injuries.

The driver escaped unhurt but his motor vehicle had its windscreen, nearside fender, head lamp and nearside view mirror damaged.

The Police has since advised the road users to always follow road safety measures in order to reduce road accidents in the district.
