Controvencies have once again emerged in the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) following an announcement of convention made by the party’s secretary general Gustave Kaliwo reports which another division in the party have parried away.
Kaliwo held a press briefing on Saturday in Blantyre where he told the media that MCP Convention from 7 to 9 July, 2017.
However, party’s second deputy secretary general Eisenhower Mkaka trashed the reports saying the call of convention is ungrounded for since Kaliwo has no such mandate.
Speaking to Zodiak, Mkaka clearly opposed the announcement of the convention and indicated that MCP will hold it’s convention in 2018.
Reacting to the response, Kaliwo wrote on his Facebook page that “announcement followed a requisition made by over half of the political district committees as required by the Party Constitution”.
He further wondered how those opposing the decision want the problems in the party told solved.
“To those that disagree could they let us know how the impasse with the chairmen, league of Malawi Women and the Chidzanja camp could be resolved other than by a convention?”, wrote Kaliwo.
MCP has been experiencing unstable situations since it’s loss in the much tight 2014 Tripartite Elections.
Some of the incidents include firing of the party’s senior member in name Friday Jumbe.
