Namwera police post in Mangochi district is keeping in custody two brothers for murder charges.
The two brothers, Layne Julius and Naliwa Ulamba are suspected of murdering Hijo Smart.
Namwera police heard from Smart Ngumbi that his 37 year old son Hijo Smart was of unsound mind after coming back from Zambia two weeks ago.
Days after his arrival he (Hijo) warned his father that one day he will set his house on fire.
This prompted his father to remove properties from the house.
On Tuesday,March 14, 2017 Hijo is said came and set on fire his father’s house as per his warning and went away with four goats.
On his way he met Naliwa Ulamba (second suspect) who wanted to recover the said stolen goats but only to be stabbed by him (Hijo) on right hand side with a knife.
Ulamba screamed for help whereby his old brother Layne Julius (first suspect) came to his rescue with a panga knife and was also stabbed on the back with a knife by the deceased.
Out of provocation first Julius revenged by severely stabbing Hijo with a panga knife in which he sustained multiple deep cuts and died on the spot.
Postmortem conducted at Namwera Health facility revealed that Hijo died due to excessive loss of blood.
According to Mangochi police station public relations office, lnspector Rodrick Maida the two brothers will appear before court soon on an offence of murder contrary to section 209 of penal code.
Two brothers (suspects) Layne (74)and Naliwa (70) hails from Matamanda village Traditional Authority Bwananyambi in Mangochi district.
Maida urged the general public to avoid taking the law into their own hands to distance themselves from re-occurrence of similar cases.
