The story of divisions and internal wrangles in the United Democratic Front (UDF) refuses to fade and gets intensified instead after a new group known as Friends of Lucius Banda Trust has emerged within the party.
The group has been formed in South Africa with an aim to support Banda who is the only UDF Member of Parliament still sitting at oppostion side in the August house.
In his words, organising secretary for the newly formed grouping Martin Pilato clearly stated that their motive is to support Banda, also known as Soldier in music cycles, to become UDF and Malawi leader in the coming elections.
According to Pilato, the party “belongs to people” and it is high time people realise that the current leader of UDF “Atupele Muluzi has failed the party”.
“We were not happy and we are not conversant at all the way we lost general elections only to wake up with surprise and shocking news that Atupele is in alliance with the enemy whom he was fighting with in the ring”, Pilato told local radio station Zodiak from South Africa.
Commenting on the matter, UDF spokesperson Ken Ndanga dismissed the development saying that a position is held for five years so there are two years remaining to the polls.
UDF has been experiencing unstable situations since it’s leader Muluzi decided to work with the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) a thing which did not go well with politician cum musician Banda.
